Parkway Bog TurtlePlease adopt your very own Blue Ridge Parkway Bog Turtle!
Donate $100 to the Bog Turtle Program, and FRIENDS will send you your very own Certificate of Adoption (shown above). We will contact you so you can name your Bog Turtle with a customized Turtle Name. We will then add your adoption information to our Bog Turtle Program web page so you can watch the progress of the Bog Turtle Program. Help FRIENDS track the Parkway bog turtle with your donation today! The bog turtle is a federally endangered species found in several wetlands along the Parkway. Their wet habitat and burrowing habits make it difficult to find them, so FRIENDS provides transmitters to the Parkway to track the bog turtles.Parkway employees -- with assistance from Project Bog Turtle and state employees -- have conducted searches in park wetlands and marked turtles that have been found. With transmitters donated by FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway, Parkway biologists hope to learn what parts of the wetland the turtles use, whether they also move to other wetlands nearby, how they deal with the traffic on the motor road and where they spend the winter. Please consider a donation to the Blue Ridge Parkway's bog turtle program.
