Volunteers: Enriching our Heritage

There are many dream jobs for the much-needed volunteers along the 469 miles of the Blue Ridge Parkway. Due to the major shortfall of over $600 million impacting the National Park Service, you are needed more than ever!

Examples of the impact upon the Parkway: campgrounds closed due to lack of volunteer hosts, Visitor Centers cannot open without Volunteers, visitor's experiences are diminished if there are no cultural heritage demonstrations ...and the list is endless. Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Blue Ridge Parkway!

Staff shortages, the "endangered Ranger", lack of park funds – all diminish your experience and the ability of the Park Service to preserve America's heritage.

In addition, our Volunteers: Enriching our Heritage Program supports projects like helping the Bog Turtle, a federal endangered species that lives along the wetlands adjacent to the Blue Ridge Parkway. FRIENDS provides transmitters that track the turtles, allowing biologists to learn what parts of the wetlands the turtles use, whether they also move between other wetlands nearby, how they deal with the traffic on motor roads, and where they spend the winter. This is just one way Volunteers and FRIENDS make a difference!

We can't all be Volunteers but we can help support this vital program.

By joining our Volunteers: Enriching our Heritage Program, you’ll receive:

  • Periodic Newsletter Updates via email
  • Blue Ridge Parkway Map
  • BRP Association Directory
  • Parkway Guidebook

Gifts of $100 or more will be listed in our newsletter annually, plus you will receive the our one-size-fits-all FRIENDS' cap.

Volunteers get to "work" in the most amazing places.  Their "work" inspires thousands of appreciative visitors annually.

You are a vital part of the success of this project. Please join us in preserving this legacy for future generations. If possible, become a volunteer, it's great fun and you'll make some terrific new friends.

If becoming a volunteer is not possible, you can still participate financially. Please give generously to the Volunteers program at FRIENDS of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
